Depletion of natural resources, rising living costs, traffic congestion, social isolation and an ageing population: these are challenges that are placing increasing pressure on our society. For fifty years, Mpact vzw has been developing concrete responses to precisely these issues.
On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the organisation reaffirms its role as a laboratory for social innovation: a testing ground where solutions are developed, piloted and supported in close collaboration with citizens, businesses and public authorities.

Mpact celebrated its anniversary on 19 January in Brussels, together with staff members and partners.
From Taxistop to an innovation platform
Mpact was founded in 1975 under the name Taxistop, in the midst of the oil crisis. The organisation emerged as a pragmatic response to scarcity: by sharing rides, available resources could be used more efficiently.
“In 1975, sharing was not a theoretical concept, but an immediate response to a very concrete crisis. What strikes me today is that the fundamental question remains the same: how can we share our resources better?”
– Jan Klüssendorf, Founder
Although the context has evolved over the years, this core question has remained central. Mpact has developed solutions around sharing and collective use, both within mobility and in other areas of society.
Cambio and new partnerships
Cambio – now one of Belgium’s leading car-sharing services – also originated in the Mpact laboratory. The initiative demonstrates how a local solution, supported by public and private partners, can grow into a sustainable alternative.
“We have always developed solutions in response to realities on the ground. Today, we are making innovation an explicit strategic choice, allowing us to respond even more coherently to today’s challenges.”
– Luc Botten, Managing Director
Mpact continues this momentum through new partnerships, including at European level. The organisation is one of the founding partners of House of TOMP, an initiative launched at the end of 2025 that aims to standardise data communication between mobility providers and MaaS platforms. This will make travel simpler and more accessible for citizens.
With its 50th anniversary, Mpact reaffirms its confidence in collaboration, experimentation and the ability to adapt flexibly to societal developments as key drivers of sustainable solutions.
