Mpact towards 2035
Fifty years ago, Mpact grew out of a simple yet radical idea: why own something when you can share it? That pioneering spirit is still part of our DNA, from our very first carpooling initiatives to Op Wielekes, our children’s bicycle libraries. In recent years, we have rediscovered and strengthened this capacity for innovation, giving it a clear strategic framework with three programme areas where we aim to make a real difference by 2035.
These programme areas reflect both the fields where we already have strong expertise and those where we are breaking new ground. We focus on where the needs are greatest and on how we can work with governments, businesses and non-profit organisations to build a society where we make the most of our resources.
Programme 1: Mobility
Shared and accessible mobility for everyone, wherever they live
- By 2035, everyone in Flanders will have access to at least one form of shared transport within walking distance of their home.
- By 2035, every older person, person in a financially vulnerable situation and person with a disability will be able to travel independently and affordably across Flanders.
Why Mpact? Mobility is already our most established field of work. Through Mobitwin, our volunteer transport service operating in more than 200 local authorities, alongside our carpooling initiatives and expertise in peer-to-peer vehicle sharing, we have built a strong network and proven partnerships. Partners who join us in this area can build on solutions and experience that are already making a difference.
Programme 2: Shared consumption
Circular and shared consumption as the norm
- By 2035, every city and municipality in Flanders will have an accessible network where residents can systematically share, exchange and reuse goods and services.
- By 2035, businesses and organisations across Flanders will systematically make surplus materials, goods and spaces available to residents and other organisations.
Why Mpact? Sharing is part of our DNA, with Op Wielekes as a successful example in practice. We understand the sharing economy, know local authorities and are familiar with the practical challenges of circular sharing. Now, we are looking for partners to take the next step with us: towards a society where sharing is the norm rather than the exception.
Programme 3: Housing and shared use of space
Affordable housing for every generation and smarter use of space
- By 2035, every municipality in Flanders will have working housing models that bring together older people with surplus living space and younger people looking for a home.
- By 2035, buildings and spaces in Flemish cities and municipalities, such as schools, offices and public infrastructure, will be systematically and intelligently shared by multiple users.
Why Mpact? We helped lay the foundations for Woningoppas and Home Exchange, building practical experience in housing and home exchange. This gives us a strong starting point for developing smarter use of space as a new strategic priority. It is a field where few other organisations are taking a systematic approach.
