Role of Mpact

The most important workpackages for Mpact as described in the project application are WP4 and WP5

In WP4, the University of Groningen will share experience and learning with the Mpact and the Danish partners around increasing the acceptance of shared travel  and reciprocation and affective strategies for encouraging people to engage in behavioural change.

In WP5, Leine and Weser, Aberdeenshire Council, Mpact and the Provinces of Drenthe and Groningen will work collectively – and cross fertilise ideas – to develop a number of technological, operational and coordination initiative to better integrate and optimise existing rural transport solutions. The learning and impact of the collective learning (the sum of these various parts) will be much more impactful than carrying out a series of projects in isolation.

The general tasks as further described in the project to improve rural public transport focusses on meeting demand and on social inclusion

  • More people to travel in fewer vehicles: Here Mpact will focus on the carpool.be service as to promote carpooling the commuting trip.
  • Mpact will also focus on new developments of the Less Mobile Service by introducing the elderly to the MobiTwin app. (There’s a thorough promotion campaign on the MobiTwin app planned in 2018)

What does this mean for the G-PaTRA roll-out process?

Mpact hosted a brainstorm team meeting in order to sketch the possibilities of the G-PaTRA roll out.

Concept Quality Neighbourhoods

  • Westhoek region: In collaboration with Transmobil and contact in the Westhoek, we will roll out measures concerning shared mobility to improve the “village hubs”. Focus on the MobiTwin app could play a major role here.

  • Flanders: Which municipalities would be willingly to test out the Toolkit?

Mobihub

  • Deinze: Further promote the good practice of the very first mobihub.
  • Westhoek region: There are a lot of municipalities in the region that are building out or working with “village hubs”. This might offer the possibilities to further reinforce these initiatives by introducing the concept of mobihubs.

Green Deal Workgroup Rural Mobility

“Shared mobility forms an essential part of the concept of basic accesibility. Especially in rural areas, the offer needs to better balanced on demand, with special attention on commuting trips and  home-school traffic. The mobility of nowadays demands a greater flexibility and a high ease of user. Mobility needs to be envisioned as a total package of transport solutions, whit services from public as well as private service providers (‘mobility as a service’). By combining the classical public transport with fixed stops and timetables (bus, tram, metro, train) with shared mobility (like car- and bike sharing), the public transport get imbedded within a complete package that could adapt more flexible to the needs of end users. People have the need to trust that they will be able to make their trip on a fluent and punctual manner, without having to automatically choose for the private car.”
